Service:   Medical Assessment and Planning Unit (MAPU)

Contract: Permanent, Part-Time (Up to 0.9 FTE / 36hrs per week)

Salary:  As per NZNO MECA (Step 1 - 5) $60,100 - $70,358 depending on experience

As a Health Care Assistant, we offer you the opportunity to join our highly motived and professional team in the Medical Assessment & Planning Unit (MAPU) at Wellington Regional Hospital.

We are the acute admission point for most general medicine patients within the CCHV region. 

MAPU is a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week assessment unit which aims to streamline the admission process, facilitate early consultant review, and expedite assessment and treatment planning. MAPU also provides ambulatory care to those patients who need a prompt medical review but who do not require an overnight hospital stay. Our service supports open, honest, communication and dynamic professional development of all teams.

We’re a tertiary facility operating Wellington Regional Hospital, Kenepuru Community Hospital, Kapiti Health Centre and Ratonga Rua-o- Porirua Mental Health Campus, a Forensic, Rehabilitation and Intellectual Disability service. The MAPU whānau are a friendly, approachable and supportive team who work together to ensure the best outcomes for our patients. We utilise team nursing where possible to develop all team members’ skills and to share knowledge and experience. 

Our team includes senior, registered, and new graduate nurses who are supported by a large group of trained healthcare assistants. 

Mōu - About You 

  • You would like to contribute to the MAPU nursing team and work alongside the Inter-disciplinary team to meet patient and service needs
  • You may have the Level 3 Health and Wellbeing qualification already
  • OR You could be currently enrolled in the Level 3 Health and Wellbeing course
  • OR You could be wanting to become a Health Care Assistant, but you do not have the Level 3 Health and Wellbeing qualification and would like to complete this while employed with us.

The Medical Assessment and Planning Unit (MAPU) is the place for you, and we can offer you employment and gain valuable experience, while earning as you learn. 

What we can offer you:

  • An individualised orientation programme 
  • Support to complete the Health & Wellbeing (Level 3) certificate if you do not have this already
