Neonatal Nurse Practitioner

We are offering exciting opportunities for experienced, motivated Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (NNP) to join our established, proactive team, which includes 5 Neonatal Nurse Practitioners servicing our 40-bed Level-III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Wellington Regional Hospital, Capital & Coast District Health Board (CCDHB). 

This is an excellent opportunity to join our expanding team of multinational Neonatal Nurse practitioners in a dynamic and challenging environment. CCDHB is one of 6 tertiary referral centres throughout New Zealand which serves a population of about 350,000 residents and provides specialist services for a regional population of about 1,000,000 people. 

Our NICU provides tertiary level care for approximately 18,000 births annually, which includes extreme preterm infants as well as general medical and surgical care, exclusive of major cardiac and neurosurgery. The service is part of a state of the art facility with innovative models of care, which continues CCDHB’s reputation as a leading Tertiary Hospital in New Zealand. We provide friendly, professional, patient centred care to the central region of New Zealand with over 400 infant retrievals/returns (mostly flight) to the region annually.  We are a leading teaching hospital and work closely together with Otago Medical School and Victoria University. Wellington bills itself as the ‘Coolest Little Capital in the World”. A beautiful harbour city, with plenty to do including great night life, cafes, is renowned for film and theatre and amazing outdoor activities … vineyards, adventure sport and countryside. 

The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner is a role within CCDHB’s NICU service. The NNP will act as a specialised practitioner who in consultation and with supervision from the Neonatologist will provide advanced clinical care and nursing expertise to neonatal infants and their families, working alongside his/her medical colleagues. If you hold a suitable qualification and are looking to practice as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner in New Zealand, who can contribute to current models of neonatal care, come and join our team. 

You will have: 

  • A minimum of 5+ year’s neonatal nursing experience 
  • Hold a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner qualification (or equivalent) 
  • Clinical Masters with Neonatal focus 
  • Willingness to gain NZ NP registration with NZ Nursing Council (requirement will be assessed individually)
  • Flight Transport Accreditation/Safety Training (or prepared to do so)
  • Excellent assessment skills 
  • Passion for Neonatal Care 
  • Motivation to develop in this speciality practice area
  • Excellent communication skills 
  • Current work Visa
