General Paediatric Fellow, Hutt Hospital
Full‑time | 1‑Year Fixed‑Term

We invite applications for a General Paediatric Fellow to join our friendly and supportive Child Health Service at Hutt Hospital for a 12‑month fixed‑term role. This position is ideally suited to trainees in the latter stages of Advanced Training who are preparing for the transition to consultant practice.

Hutt Hospital is a busy regional hospital serving the Hutt Valley community. The paediatric service provides comprehensive general paediatric care across inpatient, outpatient, and acute settings, and is known for its warm collegial culture and supportive supervision of trainees.

The role offers broad general paediatrics experience, with opportunities to contribute to teaching, mentoring, audit, and research within a collaborative multidisciplinary team, along with supported participation in the SMO on‑call roster. There are specialty services that the trainee could chose to work in including adolescent medicine, child development and paediatric rheumatology.

The full time position offers a mix of:

  • General paediatric and gateway outpatient clinics. Opportunity to tailor clinical interest to child development, adolescent medicine or paediatric rheumatology.
  • Acute assessment and inpatient management during ward and neonatal acute weeks
  • Supported participation in the SMO on‑call roster
  • Leadership and mentorship – guiding RMOs and contributing to service development
  • Teaching of medical students and junior medical staff including those preparing for RACP examinations
  • Participation in audits, research, and clinical governance activities – dedicated time for advanced training project included.
  • Attendance and contribution to departmental clinical meetings

Applicants must be eligible for MCNZ registration and have completed FRACP written and clinical exams.  The position is currently accredited for 12 months of advanced paediatric training.

Experience and Eligibility

Suitable for Resident Medical Officers who are advanced trainees in Paediatrics. You must have eligibility for general or provisional general registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.

You will need to be a NZ or Australian citizen or resident, or have an appropriate visa to be eligible to live and work in NZ.
