Rural Paediatric Fellow – Wairarapa Hospital

Full‑time | 6 – 12 months Fixed‑Term (part time also available)

We invite applications for a Rural General Paediatric Fellow to join our friendly and supportive Child Health Service at Wairarapa Hospital, Masterton, for a 6-12 month fixed‑term role.  You will also have the option to continue on with other paediatric advanced training rotations with the Hutt Valley and Capital and Coast Child Health Service. This position is ideally suited to trainees in the latter stages of Advanced Training who are preparing for the transition to consultant practice.

Wairarapa Hospital offers an exciting rural paediatric experience and is currently accredited for 12 months of advanced core general paediatric training, including the rural requirement. Serve a close-knit community of 51,000 and develop skills in:

  • Managing complex cases and independent patient care
  • Continuity of care across inpatient, outpatient, and emergency settings
  • Paediatric emergencies and limited high-dependency/intensive care provision
  • Regular outpatient clinics (2+ sessions/week) fully supervised by consultants
  • Community outreach, multidisciplinary care, and telehealth sessions
  • Level 2 neonatal experience through one-week rotations at Hutt Hospital SCBU every 12 weeks

Fellows may also run specialty clinics to meet local needs & training needs, including developmental and behavioural services. Thrive in a supportive, hands-on rural setting where you can make a real impact.

Applicants must be eligible for MCNZ registration and have completed FRACP written and clinical exams.

Experience and Eligibility

Suitable for Resident Medical Officers who are advanced trainees in Paediatrics;

You must have eligibility for general or provisional general registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. You will need to be a NZ or Australian citizen or resident, or have an appropriate visa to be eligible to live and work in NZ.
