We are seeking an enthusiastic Senior Paediatric Fellow to join our diverse and supportive team at Te Wao Nui – Wellington Children’s Hospital.
Te Wao Nui provides a comprehensive secondary paediatric service alongside a range of subspecialties and co-located Child Development Service. It is a tertiary referral centre for certain Paediatric subspecialties and offers exposure to paediatric surgery, gastroenterology, endocrinology and diabetes, neurology, neonatal intensive care and genetics. Alongside regional adult services such as neurosurgery, orthopaedics and ENT, we provide integrated care for children with complex needs from across the Lower North Island and Upper South Island.
This is a full-time Fellow position offering a flexible mix of:
- Clinical practice – tailored to your interests, including general and subspecialty outpatient clinics, plus supervision of acute and inpatient paediatric care
- Leadership & mentorship – guiding RMOs and contributing to service development e.g. participation on hospital/departmental committees, teaching, and administration for junior medical staff
- Teaching – including the opportunity to work as a Clinical Lecturer in Paediatrics for the University of Otago with 5th-year medical students and contribute to registrar exam preparation and RMO orientation
- Research & audit – with dedicated time to finish training requirements or develop new interests
The Fellow may also join the SMO after-hours roster, depending on experience, with strong consultant support at all times.
This position is accredited for 12 months of advanced paediatric training, making it an excellent step toward your Consultant career.

Experience and Eligibility
Suitable for Resident Medical Officers who are advanced trainees in Paediatrics;
You must have eligibility for general or provisional general registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. Information on the process of application for this can be found on their website at hhttp://www.mcnz.org.nz/ or http://www.mcnz.org.nz/get-registered/registration-self-assessment-tool/
You will need to be a NZ or Australian citizen or resident, or have an appropriate visa to be eligible to live and work in NZ.

RMO salaries are calculated based on relevant previous years of experience and the average weekly hours of work as set out in the relevant run description. For the current salary bands, please refer to either the Specialty Trainees of New Zealand (SToNZ) or Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) Multi-Employer Collective Agreements.
