Advanced Dietitian (Surgical)

Location: Wellington Regional Hospital

Contract: Permanent, Part Time (0.8 FTE / 32 hours per week)

About the Role 

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Dietitian to join our team in this newly created role. The Advanced Dietitian (Surgical) will provide specialist nutritional care and advice to individuals under surgical services. This pivotal role requires a deep understanding of the dietetic management of patients with complex surgical conditions, including gastrointestinal dysfunction, high-output stomas, enterocutaneous fistulae, short bowel syndrome, pancreatic disorders and postoperative complications. This role will also provide clinical leadership within the dietetics team, including assisting in developing the clinical capability of others

The role holder will be responsible for developing, implementing and reviewing evidence-based clinical care pathways that meets the holistic needs of their patients, and supports the overall aims of the wider team and service. They will work closely with other surgical dietitians and MDT members to ensure that processes are efficient, while still supporting the needs of the client group. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced dietitian looking to step into a leadership role.

About the Team/Service Location 

You will be joining a friendly, dynamic and highly motivated team of dietitians who are dedicated to improving health outcomes. This role is primarily based at Wellington Regional Hospital, but may work from other locations as the service requires. 

About you 

Working with a diverse group of patients, you’ll demonstrate excellent clinical and communication skills, and have a flexible approach to problem solving. You will have the ability to quickly build strong working relationships with patients, whānau, and the wider multi-disciplinary team, and have excellent time management and prioritisation skills. You will:

• Have at least five years dietetic practice, of which two years in surgical care. 
• Have clinical experience and advanced knowledge relevant to nutrition care and management of complex surgical patients. 
• Be up to date with international guidelines for clinical practice and able to impart this knowledge and skills to less experienced dietitians and other members of MDT. 
• Have excellent communication skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with local service providers and stakeholders. 
• Have a commitment to and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in health care, and a willingness to work positively to improve health outcomes for Māori
• Have experience working with Māori & Pacific populations (desirable) 

Professional Accreditations: 

• NZ Registered Dietitian with current annual practicing certificate with prescribing endorsement. (essential). 
• Member of Dietitians New Zealand – Professional Association and Special Interest Group. (desirable) 
• Relevant post graduate qualification(s) or working towards this (desirable)
