About the Role 

An exciting opportunity exists for experienced pharmacists to join our team as Advanced Pharmacist – Neonates and Consult to Women’s wards, permanent position, full-time (40 hours per week) with Saturdays, Public holidays and on-call on a rostered basis

The tertiary level Neonatal Care Unit at Wellington Regional Hospital serves the Central Region in NZ, as well as taking neonates from other NICU units across the country. The Advanced Pharmacist Neonates and Women’s position provides a clinical pharmacy service to the neonatal inpatient area and provides clinical pharmacy advice as a consult service to the women’s ward. This includes formulating neonatal TPN prescriptions, providing parent education, providing education to doctors and nurses, assisting in medication safety projects and undertaking medication chart reviews. This position also provides some cover to the operational areas within pharmacy.

As part of the pharmacy clinical team, other responsibilities include contributing to the leadership and management of the Pharmacy service, supporting direct clinical and technical practice as well as involvement in teaching others, and participation in whole of service improvement.

Although the role has no direct reports it is expected that the person supports the activities of junior pharmacists, interns / trainees and other staff

About the Team/Service Location 

The pharmacy team is well respected by clinicians, nursing staff, and senior management across the organisation, and is constantly looking at ways to improve the service and care it delivers.  We provide a comprehensive pharmacy service throughout to the Capital Coast and Hutt Valley District, which includes a clinical service, dispensary & logistics service, and a quality & risk service. There is also an aseptic production service at Capital & Coast Hospitals (Wellington & Kenepuru). Through these services, we aim to improve the quality and effectiveness of prescribing, supply and distribution of medicines throughout the Capital Coast and Hutt Valley District.  Our teams value professional growth, and emphasizes clinical development and medicines optimization for our patients.

About you 

We want to hear from you if you are an experienced hospital pharmacist, with at least 5 years’ clinical practice and want to take the next step in your hospital career. Previous experience in the neonatal setting is highly desirable. You will be self-motivated with a broad clinical experience, be able to work autonomously and innovatively, as well as having the ability to form good working relationships with the multidisciplinary team. You will need to be registered as a pharmacist in NZ with a valid APC, or eligible to register.
