About the roles 

The Critical Care Expansion Programme has committed funding to support and increase Allied Professions workforce capacity and capability within critical care settings. 

As a result, we currently have exciting opportunities for experienced Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, Dietitians, Pharmacists and Speech Language Therapists to join Health NZ - Te Whatu Ora, South Island Region.

We have three dynamic and developing secondary sites who are growing their capacity in their ICU departments.

About the districts:

 

Timaru Hospital and the lifestyle opportunities available in this district 

Timaru hospital is a small hospital and is one of the largest employers in the region, employing between 950 - 1000 part-time, full-time and contractors across a number of fields. The District serves a population of 60,220 people. Timaru Hospital provides a range of healthcare services, including medical, surgical, maternity, and emergency services. Specialised services and clinics may be available, such as outpatient clinics for various medical specialties. 

Strategically nestled between Christchurch and Dunedin, Timaru, the port city, provides a perfect gateway for those with a penchant for mountains. To the west lies Aoraki / Mount Cook National Park, boasting New Zealand's loftiest peaks and serving as the starting point for the Alps to Ocean cycle trail. 

 

Nelson Marlborough Hospital and the lifestyle opportunities available in this district 

There are two main hospitals, Nelson Hospital in Nelson with 140 patient beds and Wairau Hospital in Blenheim with approximately 65 patient beds. Nelson Marlborough employs approximately 2,500 people to deliver healthcare to 145,000 people across the Nelson, Tasman and Marlborough regions. Located at the top of the South Island.

Invercargill Hospital and the lifestyle opportunities available in this district 

Invercargill hospital offers an intimate and smaller hospital, but don’t let this fool you into thinking they aren’t as fun and exciting as a place to work. We have lots of space, no traffic woes, so if you are looking for your next role to be something small but still involved in all the special stuff then we would love to hear from you.

About You

You will be a highly skilled and experienced Allied Health Professional, holding a New Zealand Annual Practising Certificate, and with a minimum of 5 years experience, including knowledge of working in critical care. You will be someone who is experienced in working with people who have complex needs, and possess the ability to support the learning of others in an area of expertise.

To be successful in this role you will have:  

 

  • ICU experience or critical care exposure (essential)
  • A minimum 5 years experience as a qualified Allied Health Professional
  • The ability to work collaboratively across a multi-disciplinary team
  • Enthusiasm and confidence in sharing your knowledge across your discipline
  • Be eligible for New Zealand Registration
  • New Zealand or Australian citizenship/residency, or hold an appropriate visa to be eligible to live and work in New Zealand.

Our Intensive Care Units serve both Intensive Care and High Dependency patients. We have a multidisciplinary team of nurses, doctors and allied health professionals that form part of the Intensive Care family (whanau).
