About the Provisional Fellowship Trainee positions
- One of the aims of the PFT year is to have increasing responsibility for managing your own lists and supervising more junior trainees, while still receiving SMO support and supervision. Non clinical time is provided with 30 hours over a 4 weekly roster cycle. This time will be for self-directed activities such as research, quality assurance and teaching.
- A component of the role involves supervision and instruction for Resident Medical Officers and other students. At least one fully delivered quality improvement project is strongly encouraged. Active participate in clinical audit activities and continuing medical education is expected.
We offer the following pre-defined PFT study plans:
- Anaesthesia for Children (6 months)
- Regional Anaesthesia (6 months)
- Head & Neck Surgery (6 months)
We are prepared to consider and apply to ANZCA for prospective approval of other study plans if we feel that the local workload could support your needs. This would need to be discussed ahead of your application.
All PFT posts are designed to allow you to spend approximately 40% of your weekdays in your subspecialty, with the remainder of the week doing general duties. We also aim to roster at least one regular list where you act as the SMO to facilitate list management and development of independent practise.
Your preferences for study plans will be discussed with you at interview.
Chief Resident in Anaesthesia
In the second 6 months of your position you will also take on a fully supported role with the responsibility of leadership within the RMO group. This will involve collaboration with RMOs, the RMO Unit and the HV Anaesthesia leadership team. It also includes an administrative component of managing RMO rostering and planned leave. This is a junior Clinical Leadership position and as such provides a unique introduction to clinical governance, service organisational issues and workforce management.
