Charge Nurse Manager, Acute Pain Management Unit

The Acute Pain Management Service (APMS) is co-ordinated by the Department of Anaesthesia and Pain Management and specialises in operative and trauma pain management at Wellington Regional Hospital. The service oversees the management of patients with complex chronic/persistent pain from all clinical areas at Wellington Hospital. 

In addition to the clinical supervision of patients with advanced analgesic techniques and complex pain at Wellington Regional Hospital the APMS provides a consultative and educational service for CCDHB which includes Kenepuru Hospital.


The Charge Nurse Manager (CNM) will provide clinical leadership on the floor to bring about practice improvements. They will lead the implementation of organisational initiatives and provide day-to-day management to ensure the Acute Pain Management Service supports a safe patient journey. 

This role requires an organisational focus, as well as service, specialty, and expert nursing knowledge.

This role a full time position, working Monday-Friday working between 0830-1700.


To provide evidence-based nursing care, be an active member of the nursing team, and direct and delegate care. The Charge Nurse Manager will promote an educational culture and role model clinical excellence.


  • Sound nursing experience and knowledge
  • Minimum 5 years surgical experience 
  • Acute Pain Management experience preferable
  • Registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand as an Registered Nurse
  • Current practising certificate
  • Relevant post-graduate qualification or working towards this
