Charge Nurse Manager - Heart and Lung

Contract: Fixed Term 1FTE (August 2025 - August 2026)

About the Role 

An excellent opportunity has arisen to lead the team in our busy Regional Heart and Lung Unit, Ward 6 South at Wellington Hospital. You will work in a fast-paced environment, leading a team of over 100 people employed in the Unit. You will be supported by an experienced senior nursing team of ACNMS, nurse educators and the wider cardiology and cardiothoracic teams, including Clinical Leads and Service Managers. 

About the Team/Service Location 

Wellington Regional Hospital provides a 24/7 tertiary level acute cardiology service, including interventional procedural services and a day time elective/arranged procedure service. Ward 6 South is a busy 36 bed inpatient ward that provides secondary and tertiary care for patients with cardiac health problems.  The unit meets the needs of the Central Region in a timely and expert manner, servicing a wider population of approximately 1.1 million people.   

The team works to ensure optimal access and quality care is delivered in a friendly, and supportive environment. Ward 6 South values and supports team members and promotes professional development through access to education and mentoring of staff members.

About you 

We are looking for an experienced registered nurse who has:

  • Extensive nursing experience in acute environments
  • Cardiothoracic and/ or cardiology expertise 
  • Leadership and management experience 
  • Excellent relational skills and organizational understanding

Core skills and values must include demonstrated abilities leading and managing:

  • Evidence based nursing care and service coordination for the people and whānau
  • Efficient unit management, clinical coordination, managing acute demand and flow
  • Complex team environments, promoting a culture of safety 
  • Human resources, data and quality requirements
  • Change, problem solving and conflict resolution
  • Situations requiring advocacy for individuals, whānau or the team

Essential requirements for the role:

  • Registration and current APC with the Nursing Council of New Zealand 
  • Relevant postgraduate qualification 
  • Current on the Professional Development and Recognition Programme
