Clinical Dental Technician
Location: Dental & Oral Health Wellington & Kenepuru
Contract: Fixed term (15 September 2025 – 13 March 2026), Part Time (up to 32 hours / 4 days per week)
About the role
Capital and Coast Dental and Oral Health Department have an opportunity for an enthusiastic, qualified Clinical Dental Technician to join our well established, good humoured lab team to cover a six month period of parental leave between September 2025 and March 2026.
You will be responsible for the delivery of high quality removable plastic prosthetics and occlusal splints for Dental and Oral Health patients in outpatient clinics. In the role you may also be required to provide clinical support, assistance and advice to Dentists.
There may be some flexibility in terms of hours - the exact structure of the role and hours can be discussed at interview.
You will be expected to perform the following:
- Follow a treatment plan provided by clinicians
- Work alongside other Clinical Dental Technicians
- Provide appropriate technical advice on prosthetic limitations
- Rehabilitating soft and hard tissues with dentures
- Process and flasking dentures, trim and polish to finish
- Bite blocks, Wax ups, Try ins
- Repairs/ relines and additions to existing plates
- Fabrication of oral splints
- Designing with clear instructions for laboratory work to be completed
The Dental and Oral Health Service provides dental care for patients across two sites; Wellington and Kenepuru Hospitals. While working with us you will have the opportunity to experience the different patient mix at both locations.
Our team of 39 consists of senior dentists/ oral medicine & oral surgery specialists/ house surgeons (who provide on call)/ clinical and dental technicians/ receptionists/ dental assistants/ booking clerk and registered nurse.
The Dental and Oral Health Service is operational Monday- Friday from 8am to 4.30pm. On call house surgeons rostered outside of daily operational clinics.
About you
- Must hold a current registration as a Clinical Dental Technician with the Dental Council of New Zealand.
- Exceptional communication skills are required in combination with well-developed technical skills.
- Experience preferred
- Citizen, permanent resident or hold a valid work visa.
