Clinical Nurse Specialist, Infectious Diseases
Location: Wellington Regional Hospital
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time 1.0 FTE

About the Role
The primary purpose of the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) –Infectious Diseases Service role is to provide specialist nursing advice, care and expertise, both in delivering direct patient care and in supporting other staff caring for patients with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) within the Wellington region (Wellington, Porirua, Kapiti, Hutt Valley and Wairarapa). The CNS will work in collaboration with the Infectious Diseases Service (Capital & Coast and Hutt Valley), Primary, secondary and community providers. The role will utilise professional knowledge and clinical skills for the assessment and ongoing management of patients/ whanau with HIV. The CNS will be the point of contact for patients/whanau living with HIV, completing ongoing assessments, surveillance, treatment and care coordination in the outpatient and community setting and will act as a clinical resource and support for members of the wider multidisciplinary team
About the Team/Service/ Location
Infection Services includes five major components of cohesive infection care for the Capital &Coast and Hutt Valley region - clinical Infectious Diseases (ID), HIV medicine (HIV), Complex Outpatient Antimicrobial Therapy (COPAT), Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) and Infection Prevention and Control (IPC). There is close integration with Microbiology and Molecular Diagnostics laboratory services. Infection Services plays a major role in clinical support, quality and risk management for the organisation.
The HIV service is an integral component of Infection Services, providing integrated care of HIV patients across the Wellington (Capital & Coast, Hutt Valley, Wairarapa) region. The service has a strong outpatient focus with the aim to provide patient-centred care.
The CNS-ID works autonomously and in collaboration with the wider Infection Services team and with allied health. They have a lead role in coordination of HIV care across the Wellington region (CCHV and Wairarapa). They work closely with HIV credentialed clinicians, which in this region includes Infectious Diseases physicians and registrars and Clinical Immunology physicians based at CCHV.

About you
The ideal candidate will already have
- Registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand as an RN and has current APC
- Relevant post-graduate qualification and holds Senior/Expert on PDRP or working towards this in an agreed timeframe
- Significant nursing experience and knowledge with a demonstrated high level of clinical competence
- Experience in using research, project management and quality improvement
- Ability to use information technology
- An ability to present to groups/individuals and experience in health education across different sectors and disciplines
- Demonstrated ability and an interest in data collection and analysis
- An ability to contribute to policy review and network widely in the organisation including primary care, ARC and other community providers.
