Capital and Coast District Health Board is one of 20 District Health Boards (DHBs) located throughout New Zealand. The Children's Health Service has a vacancy for a full time Clinical Nurse Specialist Paediatric Shared Care Oncology Service. We are looking for an experienced paediatric nurse who can demonstrate excellent communication skills in addition to proven in depth oncology clinical skills and knowledge, and has a passion for teaching, mentoring and supporting his/her colleagues.
The CNS is expected to provide nursing leadership in the clinical environment to bring about practice improvements enhancing patient safety and promoting consistency and standardisation in the shared care Paediatric oncology service. You will need to be innovative in your practice and have the ability to lead, direct and motivate others. This role requires you to interact with a wide range of people from various backgrounds and centres so excellent interpersonal skills are essential.
You will need to be an advocate for the service and organisation’s strategic direction and have a commitment to supporting the ongoing development of pathways, protocols and guidelines in this specific area of practice whilst facilitating education for Child Health staff.
This position is essentially a Monday to Friday role 8am - 4.30pm however flexibility in hours may be required, in order to meet the educational needs of staff.
This role is based in the Oncology day stay service within Ward 2 providing Clinical care and education to children and their families with complex oncology and haematology related health needs.
This role will be suited to someone who thrives on challenges. You will be part of a supportive team committed to providing a high calibre of care for the children and Youth in the Paediatric Oncology service.
It is an expectation that the successful applicant is working towards post graduate qualifications.

To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Five years upward experience in Paediatric Oncology Nursing
- Previous Leadership/management roles
- Evidence of Quality/Audit or Improvement activities
