Clinical Physiologist (Neurophysiology)


Location: Wellington Regional Hospital (but may, in the future be expected to travel to the Hutt Hospital)

Contract: Permanent, Full Time

About the Role 

Wellington hospital has a small but busy neurophysiology department that covers a diverse range of procedures on a wide range of patient ages from neonatal upwards. It is located within the adult Neurology department and works closely with Neurologist, neurology nurse and neuropsychologist as part of a multidisciplinary team. 

Tests performed include:

  • Video EEG on outpatients as well as the acute setting
  • Long-term EEG monitoring on paediatric and adult inpatients
  • Evoked potentials including VEP ERG SSEP and VEMP
  • vestibular testing including Head impulse testing
  • Nerve conduction studies, which include clinical reporting of findings and Intra-operative monitoring in Neurosurgical and orthopaedic surgery. 

About the Team/Service Location 

You will be part of the neurology team which includes 13 consultant Neurologist, with 4 having a specialist interest in/training in neurophysiology and two paediatric neurologist specialising in neurophysiology, 6 Registrars/fellows (currently X2 Neurophysiology fellows and X2 advanced trainees training into neurophysiology and 2 general medical trainees), 2 House surgeons, 6 specialist neurology nurses, 1 research nurse and a team of 3 other clinical physiologists (neuro). 

About you 

  • Degree in Neurophysiology
  • Internationally recognised Practical qualification in Neurophysiology  ( following 2 year internship in neurophysiology)
  • Be registered or eligible to register with Clinical Physiology Registration Board in NZ
  • Have some post qualifying experience in  broad range of test in particular be able to perform basic NCS and have good understanding of results and preferable be able to give a clinical report. 
  • Good IT skill 
  • Good written and spoken English – minimum standard if coming from non-English speaking country is IELTS level 6.5
  • Be eligible to work in NZ / visa/ work permit.
