Clinical Psychologist for Nga Taiohi, Youth Forensic Unit

About the Role

We are seeking a Clinical Psychologist for Nga Taiohi the National Youth Forensic Inpatient Service. Nga Taiohi is a modern purpose-built unit with 10 beds located on the Keneperu Hospital campus which provides a secure inpatient service for youth offenders with mental health and/or alcohol and other drug (AOD) issues. It is co-located alongside the existing Youth Acute Inpatient Mental Health Unit (Rangatahi) and the Youth Intellectual Disability (ID) Inpatient Unit (Hikitia Te Wairua) in the Centre of Excellence at Kenepuru Hospital, Porirua. 

The Clinical Psychologist will be responsible for facilitating and delivering a range of psychological services for the rangatahi and their families.  The scope includes assessment, brief interventions with the rangatahi and their families and consultancy with other services. Additionally, the role serves to support the development and function of the team and includes case consultation, staff training and supervision, leadership and involvement in service development activities such as research and evaluation-related activities. It may also occasionally include the preparation of reports for the Youth Courts.

About you

The successful applicant will have:

  • Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Psychology and Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology or equivalent.
  • Registration with NZ Psychologist Board, with Clinical Psychology Vocational Scope of Practice.
  • Current annual practising certificate.
  • Experience in working with young people and or forensic experience preferred, but not essential.
