Co-Existing Clinician/Community Mental Health Nurse

About the roleWe are seeking a motivated, resourceful and enthusiastic registered health professional to join the Youth Forensic Team. As a team we provide liaison and consultation to and between Youth Courts, Youth Justice Facilities, Prisons, Oranga Tamariki, Mental Health Services, Police, Government and Non-Government Organisations on mental health and addiction matters and the management of associated problems. The primary purpose of the role it to provide specialist assessments, counselling and support to Youth with substance abuse/dependency and associated mental health issues.
About the Team/Service/ Location
The regional arm of Te Korowai-Whāriki includes the Central Regional Forensic Mental Health Service which operates at the interface between Mental Health Services and the Justice System and works within the following settings – prisons, courts, community, and inpatient services. The Service offers assessment and rehabilitation services to defendants charged with criminal offences and offenders who have psychiatric illness.
About you
If you are interested and committed to improving the health and well-being of youth affected by alcohol and other drug use and meet the below requirements we would be very interested in meeting you:
- Registration with Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ)
- A current Annual Practicing Certificate (APC) and scope appropriate to place of work
- Completion of an undergraduate (leading to registration) or post graduate program in mental health or Intellectual disability nursing.
We are looking for someone who is able to demonstrate professional, legal and ethical responsibilities and cultural safety. These include being able to demonstrate knowledge and judgement and being accountable for own actions and decisions, while promoting an environment that maximises clients’ safety, independence, quality of life and health. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, and be able to work in a therapeutic manner with clients. They will also have strong and clear written communication skills and be able to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally within our health team and with other agencies that we interface with.
