Community Liaison - Māori

About the Role
The purpose of this role is to provide support and guidance for Mental Health Addiction and Intellectual Disability Service (MHAIDS) Tāngata Whaiora needing community support services. This is an exciting opportunity to implement Te Ao Māori ways that support Tāngata Whenua and their whanau to navigate health and support services by working with nga Kaupapa Māori and NGO service. The full salary range for this position is $85,000 - $100,000.
About the Team/Service Location
This role sits under the wider MHAID Service in our Māori Mental Health Team reporting to the Director Māori. You will be part of an innovative, dynamic team that advocate for Tāngata Whaiora and whanau to ensure any inequities are being addressed by MHAIDS or Hospital / secondary health services. We are passionate about what we do, ensuring that our patients are receiving quality healthcare.
About you
You will have proven ability to build constructive relationships across health community networks and providers in Te Awakairangi rohi. You will be able to demonstrate awareness of equity issues and have an understanding of Te Ao Māori (Māori world view and practices such as Whanau ora) principles when working with Tāngata Whenua.
- Can negotiate skilfully in tough situations with both internal and external groups
- Proven ability to practice Te Ao Māori values, Manaakitanga, Whakawhanautanga and Kotahitanga that build and sustain effective relationships
- Well established local networks
- Significant work knowledge in social support services.
