Consultant General Medicine Physician (Fixed term)

About the role

The position holder will work as a physician in one of the nine General Medicine inpatient teams at Wellington Hospital, in the provision of acute inpatient care to adult patients.

The physician will provide consultant services and leadership for the medical team to facilitate provision of appropriate high quality service to the patients that come under his/her care and commits to maintaining a collaborative and collegial professional environment.

In General Medicine, the position holder will participate in the after-hours roster. As part of this roster when they are the designated on-call physician of the day Monday to Friday they will be based on site in MAPU between 1200 and 2000 hrs.   Details of the roster are contained within the attached job description.  We welcome discussion about the details of the roster with interested candidates.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Our General Medicine Team will support you in your work as a physician in one of the nine General Medicine inpatient teams at Wellington Hospital. We provide acute inpatient care to adult patients. Our Team is composed of Senior Medical Officers, Registrars and House Officers, reporting to our Clinical Lead for General Medicine.

Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley district is located centrally in Wellington and has over 6,000 full-time equivalent staff, making us one of the major employers in the Wellington region. We operate three hospitals – Wellington Regional Hospital in Newtown, Hutt Valley Hospital and Kenepuru Hospital in Porirua – as well as the Kāpiti Health Centre at Paraparaumu.

About you

  • Vocationally registered in Internal Medicine with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
  • FRACP or equivalent qualification and be able to register for vocational registration with the MCNZ
  • Work in collaboration with multidisciplinary team
  • Able to provide consistently high standards of medical care
  • Relevant experience and training
