Consultant General Paediatrician (fixed term)

Contract: Part time, 0.8 FTE. Fixed term, August 2026 - April 2027

About the role
An exciting opportunity exists for a Consultant Paediatrician to join our team in Wellington.
Te Wao Nui, Wellington’s Child Health Service, is a dynamic department housed in a purpose built Children’s Hospital. We are looking for a fully trained and qualified paediatrician to join our collegial team. Experience in, or desire to develop, sub-speciality areas of interest which would complement existing service provision would be welcomed. The successful candidate will hold general paediatric clinics, participate in the general paediatric on-call roster (1 in 12) excluding neonatology and contribute to the teaching and supervision of undergraduates, SHO’s and Registrars.
About the Team/Service/ Location
Our service provides a wide range of secondary and tertiary in-patient and outpatient services for the children of the region, across three sites: Te Wao Nui Children’s Hospital in central Wellington, Kenepuru Community Hospital and Kapiti Health Centre. Two inpatient wards in Te Wao Nui, split by medical care (includes the adolescent service) and surgical care (including the Paediatric Oncology Service) provide resourced inpatient cots/beds for 60 infants, children and young people. A specialist Child Development Service is co-located in Te Wao Nui and the Kenepuru Campus and subspecialties from across the hospital deliver child-focussed care in our Children’s Outpatients.
Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley district is located centrally in Wellington and has over 6,000 full-time equivalent staff, making us one of the major employers in the Wellington region. We operate three hospitals – Wellington Regional Hospital in Newtown, Hutt Valley Hospital and Kenepuru Hospital in Porirua – as well as the Kāpiti Health Centre at Paraparaumu.
About you
- Vocationally registered in Paediatrics with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) OR
- FRACP or equivalent qualification and be able to register for vocational registration in Paediatrics with the MCNZ
- Relevant experience and training
- Work in collaboration with multidisciplinary team
- Able to provide consistently high standards of medical care
