Consultant Geriatrician

About the role

Older Adults Rehabilitation & Allied (ORA) services have an opportunity for a Geriatrician to join our team based in the Kenepuru Community Team. In this rewarding role you will work within our Health of Older Persons services to optimise health outcomes for complex older adults within their homes and community. Your professional development will be well supported within our team and you will have the opportunity to lead quality improvement in your area and supervise House Officers and Registrars.

This role is suitable for a fellow or an experienced geriatrician.

The role also includes after hours on-call based at Kenepuru Hospital and support of the in hours community phone advice. 

About the service

Based at the Kenepuru Hospital Campus, you will work closely with the Kenepuru Community Older Adult Rehabilitation and Assessment (ORA) Team, one of four community ORA teams serving the Capital Coast and Hutt Valley District. This is a well-established multidisciplinary team with a strong culture of manaakitanga, collaborative practice, shared clinical reasoning, and coordinated care planning, all focused on achieving the best possible outcomes for patients.

You will also be part of the wider Geriatric and Rehabilitation Service, which provides specialist care across the district. The Older Persons and Rehabilitation Service delivers care across Wellington Hospital, Kenepuru Hospital, and three community-based sites. Our geriatricians work across a variety of settings, including inpatient consultations, admissions under geriatric and rehabilitation services, outpatient clinics, and home-based assessments and visits. This integrated approach ensures continuity of care and supports older adults to achieve and maintain the highest possible level of independence and wellbeing.

About you

• Vocationally registered in internal medicine (Geriatrics) with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
• FRACP or equivalent qualification and be able to register for vocational registration with the MCNZ
• Open to advanced trainees in geriatrics who are eligible for a fellowship position as per the RACP guidelines with clinical supervision available for training requirements
• Work in collaboration with multidisciplinary team
• Able to provide consistently high standards of medical care
• Relevant experience and training
• Full NZ drivers licence
