Consultant Immunologist

Location: Wellington Hospital, Kenepuru Hospital
Service: Immunology Service
Contract: Permanent, full time - 40 hours p/w (Would consider part time if suitable candidates)

About the role
The role holder will provide clinical immunology services to the patients of the Central Region. The role holder will be expected to work with the clinical team and assist in the development and maintenance of relationships with key stakeholders and health providers.
The role holder will need advanced knowledge and expertise related to the speciality, and have the ability to provide advice to multidisciplinary team members in relation to clinical matters.
S/he will be expected to demonstrate the skill to apply theory and trends to own practice and to provide demonstrable commitment to the provision of a quality, patient/client focused service in clinical practice.
S/he will be sought out by peers for advice in relation to clinical skills/practice and be able to demonstrate the ability to overview the clinical practice of others and effectively address issues which may affect clinical outcomes.
There are opportunities for the successful candidate to pursue sessions in immunopathology with our partners in the Awanui Labarotory.
There is also the opportunity to lead a regional inborn errors of immunity service for a candidate with relevant interest and expertise.
About the Team/Service/ Location
The Clinical Immunology Services is based within Wellington Regional Hospital and provides treatment and advice for a variety of clinical conditions, including connective tissue vasculitis, immunoglobulin deficiency, HIV and allergy. Clinical Immunology is a critical component of the multidisciplinary management of severe and debilitating chronic disease, and the Clinical Immunologist plays a key role in the choice and coordination of specialty input for these complex patients.
The Clinical Immunology service works closely with other service providers in the region. This includes Awanui Lab Immunopathology based in Wellington Regional Hospital, and other clinical services such as such as Wellington Regional Rheumatology Unit (WRRU) - based at Hutt Hospital, and District wide Infection Services.
There are opportunities for the successful candidate to pursue sessions in Rheumatology, General Medicine or Immunopathology Laboratory.
Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley district is located centrally in Wellington and has over 6,000 full-time equivalent staff, making us one of the major employers in the Wellington region. We operate three hospitals – Wellington Regional Hospital in Newtown, Hutt Valley Hospital and Kenepuru Hospital in Porirua – as well as the Kāpiti Health Centre at Paraparaumu.
About you
- Vocationally registered in Internal Medicine (Immunology) with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
- FRACP or equivalent qualification or able to register for vocational registration with the MCNZ
- Work in collaboration with multidisciplinary team
- Able to provide consistently high standards of medical care
- Relevant experience and training
