Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role

An opportunity exists for a general orthopaedic surgeon to join our highly regarded team of 18 permanent orthopaedic specialists in a permanent role based in the Wairarapa.  You will pride yourself on providing a high standard of clinical practice and expertise to the patients under your care. 

The successful candidate will be a team player and clear communicator, willing to assist with the supervision and instruction of junior medical staff within the orthopaedic service. 

Mō tō mātou rōpū – About our team

You will be employed into the Wellington Orthopaedic Service and based in Wairarapa. The orthopaedic surgeons based at Wairarapa are part of the wider service and attend teaching , audit and department meetings with the rest of the team.  They are supported in the Wairarapa by sub specialty orthopaedic surgeons from Wellington and have opportunities to rotate into Wellington theatres by arrangement.

The orthopaedic service provides for the management of major injuries and fractures at Wellington Regional hospital and treatment of injuries, congenital, infective, degenerative and malignant disorders of the musculoskeletal system at Wellington and Kenepuru hospitals.

We provide a regional tertiary service for patients with complex major trauma, revision joint replacement, spinal disorder, scoliosis, paediatric and hand surgery.

Moū – About you

• Vocationally registered in Orthopaedic Surgery with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
• FRACS or equivalent qualification or to be able to register for vocational registration with the MCNZ
• Work in collaboration with multidisciplinary team
• Able to provide consistently high standards of medical care
• Relevant experience and training
