ABOUT THE ORGANISATION
Capital and Coast DHB (CCDHB) is located centrally in Wellington and has the equivalent of around 4,300 full time staff, making us a major employer in the Wellington region. CCDHB operates two hospitals – Wellington Regional Hospital in Newtown and Kenepuru Hospital in Porirua – as well as the Kapiti Health Centre at Paraparaumu. We also operate Te Korowai-Whāriki, a large mental health campus based at Porirua.
CCDHB provides a range of specialist services including neurosurgery, oncology, neonatal intensive care and community-based services including district nursing, rehabilitation services, social work, alcohol and drug services, and home support services to a population of around 900,000 people.

ABOUT THE ROLE
An opportunity exists for a Paediatrician experienced in developmental disability assessment and management to join the Child Development Service. You must hold an appropriate specialist qualification to practise in New Zealand. The Child Development Service is a multi-disciplinary team providing specialist assessment, diagnosis and intervention for children 0-16yrs with, or at risk of, an intellectual, sensory or physical disability, developmental delay or autism spectrum disorder. We use a holistic approach to enable children with disabilities to reach their maximum potential within their families and extended environment.
Applicants would need to be available to work on all Child Development sites across the CCDHB catchment if service need required this. While the current position is 20 hrs/week, there may be opportunities to expand and develop the role across the sub-region in future.
The successful applicant will assess children with suspected disabilities or developmental delays using tools such as Griffiths III, in the context of their own clinics, and as part of a Multidisciplinary team assessment. They will work closely with other team members, and with other organisations (such as Ministry of Education) in the long-term management of children with disabilities. The successful applicant will supervise Registrars and will be involved in teaching medical students. They will participate in peer support and supervision with the other four developmental paediatricians in the sub-region, and participate in educational and other activities with the Paediatric Department of CCDHB.
- Perform assessment and review clinics
- Engage in MDT assessment and management activities
- Liaise with key stakeholders (parents/ teachers etc) to maximise children’s potential and minimise impairment.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- FRACP or equivalent Paediatric Specialist qualification
- Experience in developmental disability
