Dietitian - SACT Nutrition Pathways Project

Location: Wellington & Multiple Locations across the district

Contract: Fixed Term, Part Time, 0.6 FTE

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is dedicated to serving all New Zealanders. Through integration and collaboration, we’re building a health system underpinned by partnership, equity, sustainability, whānau-centred care, and excellence.

About the Role

This fixed-term role offers an opportunity for an experienced Dietitian to review and strengthen nutrition support for people receiving Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment (SACT) across Capital, Coast & Hutt Valley Cancer Services.  This role is 0.6FTE (24 hours per week) for up to six months.

Focusing on the implementation of new cancer medicines and the shift toward delivering care closer to home, you will work with clinicians and stakeholders to define current state and identify opportunities to improve nutrition pathways, workforce capability, and access to care. The role will help ensure nutrition services are responsive to changing patient needs and support equitable outcomes across the district.

This role can be offered as a secondment for current Health New Zealand employees.

About the Team/Service/Location

The Allied Health Oncology team provides specialist support for people affected by cancer across diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. This role reports to the Team Lead, Allied Health Oncology and is one of three fixed-term positions established to review and strengthen cancer care pathways across the district.

Working closely with Wellington Blood & Cancer, community providers, and cancer support services, the team delivers predominantly outpatient and community-based care. As more cancer treatment is provided closer to home, we are focused on ensuring patients can access coordinated, high-quality support wherever they receive care.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Registration as a Dietitian with the Dietitians Board of New Zealand
  • A current Annual Practicing Certificate with prescribing endorsement
  • A minimum of 5 years clinical experience as a dietitian, ideally with 2 years in Haematology or Oncology
  • Experience in developing and implementing clinical pathways within a complex setting
  • Experience of service improvement, pathway development and small project coordination

If you are motivated by innovation, collaboration and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in a highly specialised area of healthcare, we invite you to join us in building the future of SACT care across our district.
