District Nurse/ Registered Nurse - Stoma Care - Casual

Location: Ewart building - Coromandel Street - Newtown Wellington 

Contract: Casual employment with shifts rostered on a rotating and as required basis. The morning shift is 08:00am-16:30pm, afternoon shift 13:30 – 22:00pm.

About the Role 

We are seeking to recruit casual district nurses, including a casual stoma district nurse, to join our Wellington team. Casual positions offer flexible shifts with no guaranteed hours, making them ideal for nurses who are balancing other professional or personal commitments. These roles are well suited to experience Registered Nurses (RNs) who are looking to apply their skills and expertise in a rewarding community-based setting. You will enjoy greater autonomy, flexibility, and variety while delivering high-quality care to people in their homes and local communities.

What we offer flexible shifts, morning: 8:00am – 4:30pm and afternoon: 1:30pm – 10:00pm

What we’re looking for:

• Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Experience in community nursing, palliative care, medical, or wound care is highly valued – but we welcome nurses from all backgrounds

About the Team/Service/ Location 

We’re seeking District Nurses to join our supportive nursing team, working out of the Ewart building, 2 Coromandel Street, Newtown Wellington.

District Nursing is a dynamic and evolving specialty. Our nurses play a vital role in supporting patients transitioning from hospital to home, and in working alongside GP practices to provide care in the community.

Delivering home-based interventions including: 

• Intravenous therapy
• Palliative care
• Wound care
• Compression bandaging and Doppler assessments
• Medication management
• Stoma and incontinence care
• Respiratory support and home oxygen therapy

Assessing patients for their personal care needs and developing care plans. Direction and delegation of the Health Care Assistants (HCAs) and collaborating the wider Community Health team to ensure safe, coordinated care.

About you 

To be successful in this role:

• Current Annual Practicing Certificate as a Registered Nurse with the NZ Nursing Council.
• Previous experience in district nursing and experience/interest in working in the community setting.
• On the PDRP, or willing to work towards.
• Ability to work autonomously and make sound clinical decisions
• Police vetting (required if not currently employed by Capital, Coast)
• Board range of experience in clinical nursing experience of at least five years.
• Able to develop and maintain relationships with other community healthcare providers.
• Ability to work collaboratively.
• Team player and have excellent decision making skills.
• A current driver licence is essential
