Are you an experienced Registered Nurse seeking greater autonomy and working in an environment with a diverse range of patient care? We have casual opportunities available in our Wellington District Nursing team.
District Nursing is a dynamic and evolving field, offering a multi-faceted role that supports patients in their homes and communities. We’re looking for compassionate, adaptable Registered Nurses who thrive in autonomous practice and enjoy working collaboratively within a supportive team.
What we offer flexible casual shifts, morning: 8:00am – 4:30pm and afternoon: 1:30pm – 10:00pm

- Opportunities to contribute to service development through our Clinical Governance meetings
- A supportive orientation period for nurses new to community care
- Salary range for this role is MECA Step $100,849 - $106,739 pro rata

- Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Experience in community nursing, palliative care, medical, or wound care is highly valued. We will review nurses from all backgrounds

About the Team/Service/ Location
We’re seeking Casual District Nurses to join our supportive nursing team, working out of the Community Health Service, Ewart Building, Coromandel Street, Newtown.
District Nursing is a dynamic and evolving specialty. Our nurses play a vital role in supporting patients transitioning from hospital to home, and in working alongside GP practices to provide care in the community.
Delivering home-based interventions including:
- Intravenous therapy
- Palliative care
- Wound care
- Compression bandaging and Doppler assessments
- Medication management
- Stoma and incontinence care
- Respiratory support and home oxygen therapy
Assessing patients for their personal care needs and developing care plans. Direction and delegation of the Health Care Assistants (HCAs) and collaborating the wider Community Health team to ensure safe, coordinated care.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A current Annual Practicing Certificate as a Registered Nurse with the NZ Nursing Council.
- Previous experience in district nursing or a strong interest in community-based care
- At least five years of broad clinical nursing experience
- On the Professional Development and Recognition Programme (PDRP), or willingness to work towards this
- Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Excellent relationship-building skills with community healthcare providers
- A current driver licence is essential
