Emergency Department - Clinical Nurse Educator
Location: Wellington Regional Hospital
Contract: Permanent 0.8 FTE

About the Role
We are a Level 6 Emergency Service, dedicated to delivering acute and emergent care within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team. Our commitment is to provide consistently high-quality, safe care for patients and their whānau. As part of our team, we aim to foster a supportive and engaging learning environment for our nurses. The salary range for this year is NZNO MECA Grade 2 Step 1 pro rata.
We offer an educational platform designed to equip them with the skills and knowledge needed to care for patients across a broad spectrum – adult, paediatric, medical, trauma, and mental health within Te Pae Tiaki.
In your role as a Nurse Educator, you will mentor and support nurses at all stages of their professional journey – whether they are new graduates, transitioning into the Emergency Department, or moving into advanced areas like Resuscitation or Triage. You will also lead lectures and workshops as part of our structured study days, which are essential to ED learning. Our teaching approach is hands-on and tailored to adult learners, encouraging innovation, critical thinking, and practical application.

About the Team/Service/ Location
Te Pae Tiaki | Emergency Department is a mixed adult-paediatric department (20% children) with around 65,000 annual presentations and an admission rate of 40%; it is also the regional tertiary and trauma centre and is supported in-house by most specialties. We have a 16-bed ED Observation Unit, a fully functional Minor Care Zone (Rohe Kākāriki) and a separate paediatric zone (Wahi Tamariki).
About you
You are an experienced, confident, and resilient Registered Nurse who brings a strong foundation in acute and critical care nursing. With at least 4 years of experience in a Level 6 │ tertiary Emergency Department, or a minimum of three years in a critical care settings (such as Medical-Surgical HDU or ICU), you are ready to take on the fast pace and complexity of emergency care with clarity and confidence.
You’ll thrive in our high-performing team if you:
- New Zealand Post Grad Nursing Masters or working towards Nursing Masters
- Bring solid clinical judgement and the ability to make swift, effective decisions in high-pressure situations
- Have experience managing diverse, high-acuity presentations across adult and paediatric populations
- Are committed to delivering safe, culturally appropriate, and person/whānau-centred care
- Collaborate well within a multidisciplinary environment, supporting both patients and colleagues
- Embrace continuous learning, clinical leadership, and professional development
- Understand and uphold the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in your everyday practice
- Contribute positively to quality improvement and service innovation
