About the Role 

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced and highly skilled pharmacist to join our team as an Expert Pharmacist – Medical Oncology. This is a new senior position and is a permanent, full-time role, 40 hours per week.

Wellington Regional Hospital provides specialist services to patients with cancer and haematological conditions across the sub-region (Wellington, Hutt Valley, and Wairarapa). This role provides expert-level clinical pharmacy leadership within Medical Oncology services across inpatient and outpatient settings, supporting complex patient care and optimising treatment outcomes. 

This position plays a key leadership role in developing and implementing medical oncology-specific pathways, protocols, and guidelines, ensuring alignment with national and international best practice and evidence-based standards. The role also contributes to service development, quality improvement, and clinical innovation across the cancer services continuum.

About the Team/Service/ Location 

The Wellington Blood and Cancer team aims to deliver quality care to patients of all ages and cultures and to support them to reach their full potential in health so they can function independently in the community. This is achieved through a partnership of care, support and shared responsibility. As a Pharmacist within cancer services you will be expected to deliver care for a wide variety of conditions in a safe and professional manner to patients of all ages and cultures and to support them to deal with the wide range of physical and psychological challenges. 

About you 

We are seeking an expert-level pharmacist with significant clinical experience in oncology. You will be confident managing highly complex clinical presentations and providing advanced clinical decision-making within a multidisciplinary team.

You will have strong clinical leadership capability, with experience contributing to service development, education, and quality improvement initiatives. You will be self-motivated, innovative, and able to work autonomously while also influencing and supporting others across the service.

You will also have the ability to develop and lead pharmacist-led clinical services, including case management models for medical oncology patients, and contribute to education delivery across the district.

You must be registered as a pharmacist in New Zealand with a current Annual Practicing Certificate. A prescribing scope and relevant postgraduate qualification are desirable.
