Fitter - Facilities Team

About the Role

We're looking for two skilled Fitters to join our Facilities team within the Infrastructure and Investment Group (IIG). This is an opportunity to work in one of New Zealand's most diverse and technically challenging mechanical maintenance environments, supporting critical hospital infrastructure across the Wellington, Hutt Valley, Porirua and Kāpiti Coast. 

As a Fitter, you'll carry out preventative, reactive and condition-based maintenance, repairs and upgrades across a wide range of mechanical systems, ensuring essential hospital services remain safe, reliable and operational for patients, staff and visitors. 

You'll work on:

• A verity of mechanical systems
• Chillers and HVAC systems
• Mechanical plant and pipework
• Steam and hot water heating systems
• Critical hospital infrastructure
• Medical Gas Pipeline Systems (MGPS)
• Building Management System (BMS) related plant and components

This is a practical role where no two days are the same. One day you may be fixing urgent issues, and the next carrying out planned preventative maintenance. You'll also take part in the after-hours on-call roster to keep things moving when it matters most.

The salary range for this role is $77,780 - $89,241, depending on experience.

Our IIG team are focused on delivering high-impact infrastructure investments that support the transformation of New Zealand's health system. Providing leadership, oversight and assurance across a diverse portfolio of projects and programmes, the team ensures health facilities, sites and equipment are safe, reliable and fit for purpose, enabling the delivery of high-quality healthcare for all New Zealanders.

About you

You are a tradesperson who enjoys technical problem solving, fault finding and hands-on mechanical work. You're motivated by keeping critical systems operating safely and efficiently and take pride in providing high-quality workmanship.

To be successful in this role, you'll have:

Essential

• Experience in Fitting & Turning, Refrigeration, HVAC, Welding or a related mechanical trade, or a combination of the above.
• Must have mechanical experience, some onsite training of systems will be provided as required.
• Current full, clean New Zealand driver's licence.
• Experience in operating steam and hot water boilers, chillers, HVAC systems and associated mechanical plant within commercial or industrial environments.
• Ability to read technical drawings and follow maintenance standards.
• Excellent communication skills and commitment to health and safety practices.
• Willingness to upskill and learn new skills within the hospital environment.
• Computer savvy.
• Team player.

Desirable

• Trade certificate in fitting and turning.
• Familiarity with medical gas systems and building management systems.
• Competency in operating steam boilers
