Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role

  • Permanent Medicine Registrar position starting 3 August 2026 or as soon as possible. 
  • Allocation to General Medicine training or General Medicine non-training role at Wairarapa Hospital in Masterton.

 

 

This is an 6-month RACP-accredited training position however we are open to consider a doctor who could work in this position for an entire year (2x 6-month postings) or non-trainees. You will be the General Medical Registrar with a small team of consultant physicians and prevocational doctors and have a great opportunity to lead and learn.  As the lone registrar you will have direct contact with the SMO physician team and other teams providing a wide scope of hands on learning.

 

There is subsidised shared Registrar accommodation if you wish (free-ish if you have a mortgage or rent to cover elsewhere in New Zealand!).

Wellington Region RMO positions are rotational across multiple hospitals, including Wellington Regional, Kenepuru, Hutt and Wairarapa (Masterton) Hospitals which means that you may rotate to these sites after your year in Masterton if you wish.

Regional specialties cover General Medicine, Cardiology, Medical Oncology, Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, Immunology, Rehabilitation, Rheumatology, Haematology, HOP and Acute HOP, Nephrology, Infectious Diseases, Geriatrics, Respiratory, Renal, Neurology, and Palliative Care. 

RMO salaries are calculated based on relevant previous years of experience and the average weekly hours of work as set out in the relevant run description. For the current salary bands, please refer to either the Specialty Trainees of New Zealand (SToNZ) or NZ Resident Doctors’ Association(NZRDA) Multi-Employer Collective Agreements.

Suitable for Resident Medical Officers who have completed at least PGY2. 

You will need to be a NZ or Australian citizen or resident, or have an appropriate visa to be eligible to live and work in NZ - information available on the Immigration New Zealand website.
