General Practitioner/Medical Officer - Te Mahoe Unit (6 months fixed term)
Location: Wellington Regional Hospital
Service: Women’s Health Service - Te Mahoe Unit
Contract: 6 months fixed term, part time - 0.09 FTE (Wednesday morning only)
Salary: As per ASMS SECA

About the role
The successful candidate will provide high quality care that is safe, legal and ethical for first trimester medical and surgical abortions under local anaesthetic using the local resources of Wellington Regional Hospital, Te Mahoe Unit, With a focus on
- Consultation and liaison with other professionals
- Participation in relevant multidisciplinary team meetings
- Adherence to the protocols, guidelines and practice standards pertaining to the Contraception, Sterilisation and Abortion Act 2021
About the Team/Service/ Location
Come and join our small enthusiastic team of Senior Medical Officers in the Te Mahoe Unit at Wellington Regional Hospital. We are looking for an experienced clinician with particular proven interest in abortion care who has excellent interpersonal communication skills, and who will create effective working relationships to help provide a high level of care for our community.
Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley district is located centrally in Wellington and has over 6,000 full-time equivalent staff, making us one of the major employers in the Wellington region. We operate three hospitals – Wellington Regional Hospital in Newtown, Hutt Valley Hospital and Kenepuru Hospital in Porirua – as well as the Kāpiti Health Centre at Paraparaumu.
About you
- Registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ), with proven clinical experience in reproductive health
- A high degree of clinical skill, particularly with a view to training to perform abortions under local anaesthetic in accordance with Te Mahoe Unit’s policies and procedures and the statutory requirements as required under Contraception, Sterilisation and Abortion Act 2021
- The ability to relate well to all kinds of people
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Proven experience of working co-operatively with others within a multidisciplinary setting
