Contract:  Permanent, Part Time (0.65FTE / 26 hours per week)

SalaryPSA Allied Health Technical & Scientific SECA, Up to Step 7 on core salary scale: $104,446)

Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role

To provide genetic counselling services for patients in Christchurch Hospital and outreach locations under the supervision of the Clinical Leader and senior genetic counselling staff.  To determine patient eligibility for additional genetic testing, family registries, and/or research protocols.  To practice in a manner consistent with established ethical standards as provided the Human Genetics Society of Australasia (HGSA) and Australasian Society of Genetic Counsellors (ASGC)

Genetic Health Service NZ (GHSNZ) is a multidisciplinary national service with clinical diagnostic, genetic counselling and genetic laboratory components. The clinical service is delivered by out of 3 sites, Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch by way of an extensive Outreach Program to all regions of Aotearoa/NZ.  The Christchurch based team has an establishment of 2.86 FTE clinical geneticists, 4.05 FTE genetic counsellors and 3.1 FTE clinic administrators.   

Moū – About you

  • Masters Degree or equivalent in genetic counselling
  • Ideally two years’ work experience in clinical genetics 
  • A commitment to participate in the HGSA Genetic Counsellor certification programme 
  • Experience within a range of genetic settings is preferable e.g. cancer genetics, prenatal and adult counselling
