Health Care Assistant - General Medicine
Location: Wellington Regional Hospital
Contract: Permanent, Part Time 0.8 FTE, Rostered and Rotating

About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Health Care Assistant to join our dynamic team in General Medicine. This role is expected to cover 4 South winter ward and may ask redeploy to other General Medicine Ward such as ward 5 South, MAPU and ward 6E.
You’ll play an important part in providing nursing cares. You will provide assistance to the health care team, by focusing on the patient’s comfort and performing delegated patient care duties, including completing personal cares and service activities as required.
About the Team
4 South winter ward
is a 12 bedded unit allocated for
short stay medical care, targeting patients nearing discharge readiness. This ward
is expected to primarily support patients transitioning from Medical Assessment
and Planning Unit with a projected total length of stay of 1.5 to 3 days. The
intent is to provide a dedicated environment on 4 South for continued care, following rapid assessment in MAPU, facilitating timely discharge
into the community.
Ward 5 South General Medicine is based in Wellington Regional Hospital is a fast-paced 36 bed ward caring for a wide variety of acutely unwell patients. It includes a 4-bedded high-dependency bay with a potential to expand due to service demands.
Ward 5 South includes the following services, but are not limited to:
- General Medicine
- Respiratory Medicine
- Gastroenterology
- Palliative Care
- Managed Withdrawal Services
- Infectious Diseases
- Eating Disorders
- Gerontology
- Geriatrics
- Immunology
- High-Dependency Nursing
Duties
- Attending to patients activities of daily living
- Restock ward supplies
- Engagement and observation of patients
- Maintaining a clean ward environment
About you
- Good oral and written English and interpersonal communication skills
- Basic keyboard skills ideal but not essential
- Effective time management skills
- Level 3 NZQA National Certificate in Community Support Services (or equivalent qualification).
Or Student Nurse enrolled in a Bachelor of Nursing Degree Programme who
has completed the first year
of the three-year programme.
