Health Care Assistant - Orthopaedics and Urology
Location: Wellington Regional Hospital
Contract: Permanent, Part Time 0.8 FTE Rostered and Rotating

About the Role
We have an HCA role available in our supportive team at Wellington Hospital. The HCA provides assistance to the health care team, by focusing on the patient’s comfort and performing delegated patient care duties, including completing personal cares and service activities as required. In addition, the HCA supports the team with other non-patient tasks as assigned.
You will be based on Ward 6 North a 36-bed orthopaedic and urology ward. This is a busy fast paced environment, and we are looking for someone with passion and enthusiasm to support the nursing team.
Duties
- Supporting nursing staff with patient care
- Assisting nursing staff with patient flow
- Maintaining oversight of clinical supplies and restocking as needed
- Maintaining a clean environment to a high standard
- Maintaining oversight of equipment required by nursing team
- Other tasks as assigned by the nursing team
Skills & Experience
- Level 3 NZQA National Certificate in Community Support Services (or equivalent) or willing to work towards this
- Previous experience working in health care environment would be an advantage

Ward 6 North is a 36 bed multi-speciality ward. This service provides care for patients from both Orthopaedics and Urology specialities. Ward 6 North is a supportive team who are friendly and welcoming. On our ward, we have Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses, Senior Nurses and Health Care Assistants who work collaboratively to provide the best health outcomes for patients. Our team are passionate and knowledgeable, who are committed to giving our patients the best experience during their journey. We are supportive and encouraging of our staffs learning and professional development opportunities.

Your tasks will include:
- Providing the very best care and support to patients in line with their personalised care plan
- Attending to the personal care needs of patients including all activities of daily living
- Supporting and promoting patients where and when required including with dietary intake and mobility
- Liaising with patients and their significant others, and members of a multidisciplinary team to achieve positive patient outcomes
- Working under the guidance of a Registered Nurse or Enrolled Nurse
- Flexible multitasking and time management skills
