Health Care Assistant – Outpatients and Clinical Measurement Unit
Location: Wellington Regional Hospital or Hutt Hospital
Contract: Permanent, Full-time 1 FTE rostered and rotating.

About the Role
Outpatients is a dynamic, fast-paced ambulatory care setting spanning Wellington Regional Hospital and Kenepuru Community Hospital. Our clinics are patient- and whānau-focused, supporting patients from their First Specialist Appointment (FSA) through to follow-ups, procedures, and long-term care coordination.
The Health Care Assistant (HCA) role in the Outpatients Department is to support the delivery of safe, effective, and patient-centred outpatient services by assisting the nursing team with delegated clinical and service activities.
Working under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Enrolled Nurse (EN), the HCA contributes to positive patient experiences, efficient clinic flow, and the smooth day-to-day operation of outpatient services across Wellington and Kenepuru campuses.
About you
- A reliable and motivated Health Care Assistant who enjoys working in a fast-paced outpatient environment
- Comfortable working under the direction and delegation of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Enrolled Nurse (EN), with a clear understanding of role scope and boundaries
- Experience or willingness to learn in supporting outpatient services, including eye testing and HCA-led clinics
- Able to assist with the ordering of supplies and consumables, and maintaining appropriate stock levels
- Supports the day-to-day running of clinic equipment, including cleaning, checking, and ensuring equipment is available and ready for use
- Organised and detail-focused, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing clinic demands
- Works effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and communicates well with nursing, medical, allied health, administrative, and support services across the hospital
- Committed to providing safe, respectful, and patient-centred care that supports positive patient and whānau experiences
