About the Role

In this role, you’ll be a cultural anchor within the team supporting both tangata whaiora and kaimahi, and helping to ensure care is delivered in a way that reflects tikanga Māori. You’ll work closely with clinicians, families and communities, offering guidance and support to strengthen engagement and improve outcomes.

Some of your responsibilities will include: 

  • Provide cultural advice and support to the team 
  • Support rangatahi and whānau throughout their journey 
  • Lead tikanga practices such as pōwhiri and hui 
  • Build strong connections with community and iwi

This is a part-time position working three days per week, from 8:00am to 4:00pm.

The salary band for this role is $73,876 -$88,887 (pro-rata), depending on experience.

About the Team/Service/ Location 

The Rangatahi Unit is a 12 bedded mental health acute unit that provides a service for adolescents who are experiencing an acute episode of mental illness.  RRAIS is one of three adolescent inpatient services in New Zealand.  It is a regional service for the lower North Island providing for adolescents from the Wellington region up to and including Gisborne. 

You will be part of a progressive, innovative and creative whanau/team implementing and participating in the future development for Maori mental health services. We are a dynamic and enthusiastic team with a passion for providing specialist assessment and treatment to rangatahi aged 12 to 17 years inclusive and their whanau.  You will fit into a strong team culture of collaborative practice, openness, humour, fun and respect across all disciplines.

You will be joining a service that is committed to high standards of practice and supports on-going professional development for staff through regular supervision, an excellent professional development and recognition programme (PDRP), regular in-service training and support towards external education.

About you 

You’re a respected Kaumātua or Kuia with strong community connections and a passion for supporting rangatahi and whānau. You bring a deep understanding of tikanga Māori and feel confident sharing your knowledge to guide others and help create culturally safe, meaningful care.
