About the Role
We are looking for a person-directed, values-driven Local Service Lead to lead the Wellington Central Community Mental Health Team within our Local Adult Specialist Mental Health and Addiction Service.
In this role, you will provide operational leadership and work closely with experienced clinicians and multidisciplinary staff to support the delivery of safe, effective, and integrated specialist mental health and addiction services within our local communities.

The salary band for this role is $122,000 - $138,000, depending on experience.
About the Team/Service Location
The Wellington Central Community Mental Health Team is part of the Local Adult Specialist Mental Health and Addiction Service within Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand’s Mental Health, Addiction and Intellectual Disability Services (MHAIDS).
Our team provides specialist community-based assessment, treatment and recovery-focused support for people experiencing moderate to severe mental health needs across the Wellington central area. We work collaboratively with service users, whānau, primary care providers, NGOs, and other health and social services to support people in their recovery and wellbeing.
We are a multidisciplinary team made up of experienced clinicians and support staff who bring a wide range of skills and perspectives. Our team values collaboration, professional curiosity, and shared learning, and we are committed to creating a supportive environment where staff feel valued and connected.
We place strong emphasis on person-directed care, equity, and culturally responsive practice, working in partnership with Māori and diverse communities across our district. About you
You will be passionate about supporting teams to deliver high-quality, person-directed mental health and addiction services within the community.
You will bring strong leadership capability and the ability to work collaboratively across services to support safe, effective, and recovery-focused care.
You will also:
- Have experience leading and supporting multidisciplinary teams within a health or social service environment.
- Demonstrate a commitment to person-directed, trauma-informed, compassionate practice that offers help and hope.
- Work in a holistic, integrated and collaborative way, recognising people’s physical health and social needs and partnering with primary care and non-government (NGO) providers.
- Have a strong understanding of cultural safety, equity, and culturally responsive practice, with work consistent with the spirit and intent of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
- Value recovery-focused approaches and lived experience, including the importance of intentional peer support.
- Be mindful of the needs of our diverse communities, including Pacific peoples, refugee and migrant communities, disabled people/tāngata whaikaha, rainbow communities, and people living in rural or isolated areas.
- Bring excellent communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills, and be comfortable working within complex systems.
A relevant tertiary qualification in health, management, or a clinical discipline is desirable.
You will also hold a full and clean
driver’s licence and be able to complete New Zealand Police vetting under the
Children’s Act.
