Māori Equity Lead


Location: Porirua base location (work across the Capital, Coast & Hutt Valley District as required)

About the Role 

Are you seeking an opportunity to influence a positive culture change in a large mental health service? As the Māori Equity Lead you will be responsible for providing stewardship and advice on how best to integrate Tiriti o Waitangi principles and equity actions, across all key quality initiatives in the Mental Health Addictions and Intellectual Disability Service (MHAIDS). Some of your duties will include:

  • Providing guidance to MHAIDS Leaders on Tiriti o Waitangi-led and pro-equity approaches to reduce Māori inequities
  • Promote and advocate the growth and development of a Māori workforce within the sector
  • Identify continuous quality improvement initiatives that focus on achieving health equity, excellent health outcomes, and excellent Tāngata whaiora care

About the Team

The Māori Equity Lead will be part of the Māori Leader Group under MHAIDS, Director Māori. You will be joining a new, innovative and dynamic team that will lead the integration of equity principles and Tiriti o Waitangi values, into how services are developed and delivered - acknowledging that partnership and collaboration must be at its foundation for success.

About you 

We are looking for someone with the following skills and experience:

  • An understanding of the significance of and obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi, including how to apply Te Tiriti principles in a meaningful and pragmatic way. 
  • Demonstrated evidence of leadership and knowledge of Kaupapa Māori service delivery
  • Demonstrated awareness of equity challenges as applicable to Tāngata Whenua
  • A tertiary qualification and/or significant work experience in a related field
  • Experience in providing equity input and advice at an operational and service delivery level with ability to plan and deliver effective analysis of health inequities.
