Medical Assessment and Planning Unit - Nurse Educator
Location: Wellington Regional Hospital
Contract: Permanent, 1.0 FTE.

About the Role
We are looking for a passionate, forward thinking experienced nurse to join our team as a Nurse Educator (NE) in the Medical Assessment and Planning Unit (MAPU), Wellington Regional Hospital.
As a NE you are responsible for facilitating training and education, developing the nursing workforce and capability both within the Medical Assessment and Planning Unit and across the District. You will provide leadership in the clinical environment, be involved in practice development and change implementation. This is achieved through developing, implementing and evaluating orientation, ongoing training, education programmes and resources.
The NE provides professional and clinical nursing leadership, working with staff to meet quality and safety standards of care. This includes contributing to development of policies and procedures. The clinical component of the role is to provide expertise and role modelling by working with staff to teach, coach and demonstrate practice excellence. Cultivating a culture of clinical excellence.
About the Team/Service
The MAPU operates a 24 hour service, seven days a week. Our purpose is to provide assessment and initial treatment of patients from either the community or the Emergency Department (ED) who potentially require admission under the General Medicine Service.
The MAPU whānau are a friendly, approachable and supportive team who work together to ensure the best outcomes for our patients. We utilise team nursing where possible to develop all team members’ skills and to share knowledge and experience.
Our team includes senior, registered, and new graduate nurses who are supported by a large group of trained healthcare assistants.
About you
Are you:
- An experienced Registered Nurse with at least three years’ experience
- Passionate for inspiring growth and development in others
- An enthusiastic team player, with proven leadership skills, and ability to motivate and work towards team cohesion
- Registered with the New Zealand Nursing Council and maintain an annual practicing certificate
- Hold or be working towards, a relevant post graduate qualification
- Hold a current PDRP and be committed to obtaining senior level
