Nurse Educator – Ward 3 Acute Frailty Unit

Location: Wellington Regional Hospital 

Contract: Permanent, Part Time 24 hours per fortnight or 0.3 FTE, Weekdays (Monday to Friday)

About the Role 

We are looking to recruit a Nurse Educator to work at Wellington Hospital within the Acute Frailty Unit to promote, facilitate and provide clinical education to maximize health care delivery, enhance patient outcomes, and promote clinical excellence and evidence-based professional nursing practice.

The position is permanent, part time working 0.3 FTE (24 hours per fortnight). The successful candidate will be working for the Acute Health of the Older Person Service under the supervision of the Charge Nurse Manager.

About the Service 

The Acute Frailty Unit provides 24 hours a day, 7 days a week services that focuses on timely assessment, diagnosis and acute treatment planning of frail patients with a wide range of medical conditions. All of the patients admitted into this area benefit from a model of care that focuses on reducing hospital harm. This is achieved by a short length of stay, and an interdisciplinary model of care that prevents patients deconditioning.

• Demonstrates a commitment to quality improvement by leading and/or participating in quality improvement activities.
• Consistently demonstrates high clinical standards, clinical leadership, and professionalism.
• Engages in internal and external educational initiatives to enhance learning opportunities.
• A commitment to achieving equitable outcomes for Māori
• Demonstrates an understanding of significance and obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi, including how to apply Te Tiriti principles in a meaningful way in a senior nursing role

Skills & experience

• Registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand with a current APC with proven clinical expertise within, but not exclusive, an acute care setting, rehabilitation and geriatric care.
• Hold at least 7 years post registration experience
• Have relevant post graduate qualifications, working towards Master of Nursing
• Relevant qualification in adult education or working towards this within agreed timeframe
• Have strong verbal and written communication skills
• Motivated and flexible with the ability to work across different teams and autonomously
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the proven ability to engage people at all levels
• Have a personal commitment to on-going learning and development including attainment/maintenance of senior PDRP 
• Have the legal right to work in New Zealand, and hold a current work/residence visa
