About the role

The Nurse Educator plays a crucial role in facilitating training and education to enhance the competence and capability of the nursing workforce within the Wellington Blood and Cancer Centre. 

In this role you will be responsible for providing leadership in the clinical environment and to bring about practice improvements by achieving high levels of nursing practice within Oncology and Haematology services. This role offers you the opportunity to further develop your dynamic leadership and project skills.

You will work closely with the senior nursing team to facilitate the WBCC education programme and assessing the educational and learning needs of the nursing team. Also, you will provide ongoing support for the nursing team with their PDRP and importantly, maintaining the eviQ certification for the nursing team.  This is critical in maintaining essential core nursing skills and developing area related specialty skills.

We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic nurse, wishing to join this small but dedicated and experienced team.  The successful candidate will receive a thorough, comprehensive orientation to the service with ongoing educational opportunities and support. The salary range for these roles are NZNO Meca Grade 1 Senior Designated Nurse scale - pro rata.

About the Team/Service Location 

The Wellington Blood & Cancer Centre (WB&CC) incorporates the specialties of Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology and Clinical Haematology into an integrated regional and supra-regional cancer service for both inpatients and outpatients.  Services provided in the WBCC include specialist consultation and treatment for referred Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology and Haematology patients either in Wellington or outreach clinics.

The WBCC team is a hardworking, friendly and supportive team who are passionate about providing a high level of care to patients accessing oncology, haematology and radiation services.

About you

  • Current Expert PDRP
  • A minimum of 3yrs post graduate nursing experience and sound knowledge in Haematology, Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology nursing
  • Post graduate qualification in nursing and prepared to work towards a Masters in nursing
  • Provide leadership in the clinical environment and be involved in quality improvement projects
  • Experience with developing and delivering education to the nursing team and the wider organization
  • Ability to support new nursing staff and guide them through the EVIQ processes to become certified to safely administer chemotherapy. 
  • Be capable of working closely with members of the MDT, ACNMs and CNS’s 
  • Have clear communication and dynamic problem solving skills
