Nurse Educator - Wellington District Nursing Service

Location: Ewart building, 2 Coromandel Street, Newtown Wellington 

Contract: Permanent, part-time (0.5 FTE). Standard hours are 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday, with specific working days to be agreed upon.

About the Role 

Are you an experienced Registered Nurse with a passion for education and developing others?

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Nurse Educator to join our Wellington District Nursing Service. This part-time role offers an exciting opportunity to use your clinical expertise and educational skills to support the professional development of our District Nurses, Enrolled Nurse, and Health Care Assistants (HCAs).

As the Nurse Educator, you will play a key role in supporting clinical excellence across the service through education, training, and workforce development initiatives. You will contribute to orientation programmes, ongoing professional development, and service improvement activities while working closely with clinical teams across Wellington, Kāpiti, and Kenepuru.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate and deliver education programmes and in-service training for District Nurses, Enrolled Nurse, and HCAs.
• Support staff participating in the Professional Development and Recognition Programme (PDRP).
• Develop and maintain online learning resources through Ko Awatea learn.
• Assist with the orientation and onboarding of new District Nursing and HCA staff.
• Participate in Clinical Governance and team meetings, contributing to service development and quality improvement initiatives.
• Promote evidence-based practice and support clinical competency development.

About the Team/Service Location 

The Wellington District Nursing team is a collegial, skilled, and passionate group committed to delivering holistic, person-centred care within the community. We work closely alongside our Kāpiti and Kenepuru colleagues to provide high-quality care across a diverse range of clinical settings.

The Nurse Educator supports staff education across a broad scope of community nursing practice, including:

Intravenous therapy, palliative care, wound management, compression bandaging, Doppler assessment, medication management, stoma care, continence and catheter management, respiratory care and home oxygen therapy and Enteral feeding.

Our Wellington District Nursing team is based at the, Ewart building, 2 Coromandel Street, Newtown Wellington.

About you 

We are looking for a senior Registered Nurse who is passionate about education, workforce development, and improving community health outcomes.

You will bring:

• Current Annual Practising Certificate with the Nursing Council of New Zealand.
• A minimum of five years' broad clinical nursing experience.
• Previous Nurse Educator experience or demonstrated teaching and facilitation experience.
• Experience in community, primary health, medical, palliative care, and/or wound care nursing.
• Strong clinical leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
• Excellent prioritisation, organisation, and decision-making abilities.
• A collaborative and adaptable approach to working with multidisciplinary teams.
• Commitment to professional development and working towards a postgraduate qualification.
• The ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with community healthcare providers.
• A current full New Zealand driver's licence.
