Nurse Practitioner - Kenepuru Accident and Medical Clinic

Location: Kenepuru Accident and Medical Clinic, Kenepuru Hospital, Porirua 

Contract: Permanent, 0.6 FTE – 1.0 FTE

About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Mātanga Tapuhi Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our busy and thriving Accident and Medical Urgent Care Clinic based at Kenepuru Hospital in Porirua. 

We are looking for an experienced Mātanga Tapuhi NP interested in working 0.6 FTE- 1.0 FTE in our clinic. You would be working alongside two existing NPs covering day and evening shifts across weekdays and weekends. The clinic-based NP role assists in providing urgent health care to the Porirua population and wider communities. 

The Mātanga Tapuhi NP would manage a wide range of clinical presentations autonomously and in collaboration with other health professionals. The Mātanga Tapuhi NP role encompasses clinical leadership both clinically and professionally.  A flexible approach is required to provide direct patient care and treatment as well as support through clinical advice and education. 

 As part of the advanced nursing workforce this will involve providing ongoing education to the nursing team. As a Nurse leader this role influences health service delivery and involves participation in auditing and policy development. Salary is NZNO MECA Grade 6.

 About the Team/Service/Location 

We are a close-knit team of medical, nursing and administration staff that support a 24/7 roster. We currently see approximately 36,000 patients per year. The doctors’ roster is made up of Urgent Care SMOs employed by the department, contracting doctors and local GPs. 

The clinic supports the northern corridor of the Capital coast catchment area, in particular the Porirua community. We are passionate about serving the local community and assisting with avoiding ED presentations where clinically appropriate and providing after hours medical care where needed. 

About you 

The person in this role will

• Be registered as a Mātanga Tapuhi NP with the Nursing Council of New Zealand 
• Have experience of urgent care, emergency medicine or acute care setting 
• Have experience and confidence in assessment and managing acute care presentations independently
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with all levels of staff 
• A strong patient care focus and able to deliver high quality of care for patients and whānau 
• A passion for ongoing learning and development and the ability to share, support and develop others.
• Comprehensive knowledge informs NZ Health System understanding including equity issues, professional leadership and emerging issues for the nursing profession
