Nurse Practitioner - Renal Service

Location: Wellington Regional Hospital 

Contract: Permanent, Full time 1.0 FTE, Monday - Friday

About the Role 

The Renal Service has an exciting opportunity for an innovative Mātanga Tapuhi Nurse Practitioner (NP) position or a NP Candidacy to registration for this area of practice. 

The NP Renal will provide and facilitate comprehensive clinical care and advanced nursing expertise for renal patients with complex needs. This includes consultation, direct care and treatment as well as providing support through clinical advice and education to relevant staff. The role ensures the delivery of high quality specialist renal care for renal patients and their whanau/families. 

As a nurse leader, the NP works across healthcare settings and influences health service delivery. The NP manages clinical caseloads autonomously and in collaborative with other health professionals within Wellington, Kenepuru and Hutt Hospitals, and the wider community service to improve access to specialist renal care. 

The NP role looks to provide clinical governance through nursing leadership, research utilisation and activities to contribute to practice excellence and innovation within the Renal Service. The role importantly encompasses clinical leadership (both clinically and professionally) as part of an advanced practice role.   

About the Service 

The Renal Service provides a full renal service for the management of acute and chronic renal disease to CCHV. This includes outpatient consultations, inpatient care, renal transplant services, thorough pre-dialysis work up and ongoing dialysis care. CCHV is also a tertiary centre and provides advanced renal care, and renal transplant services to the Central Region, and Nelson Marlborough District. 

At CCHV we have an in-centre Dialysis Unit at Wellington Regional Hospital (WRH), and two satellite units at Kenepuru Hospital and Hutt Valley Health Hub. The service maintains a strong focus and commitment to home-based dialysis, both peritoneal and haemodialysis. There is a home dialysis training unit based close to WRH. 

Outpatient clinics are provided at WRH, Hutt Hospital, Kenepuru Hospital and Kāpiti health centre and Wairarapa.

Renal inpatient care is primarily provided on Ward 5 North, Level 5 WRH building. Ward 5 North has 40 beds and is shared with medical oncology, radiation oncology, and haematology. The ward provides a full renal medical and nursing service including diagnostic investigations, peritoneal dialysis, and renal transplantation, as well as general medical, surgical and nursing care for renal patients

About you 

You will have the following

• Clinical Masters including or additional NP required practicum (60 credits)
• Current Mātanga Tapuhi NP Annual Practising Certificate with recent relevant clinical experience
• Have at least four years’ experience aligning with nephrology area of practice. 
• If an international trained NP please include university transcript for your Masters course with your application

We are looking for a recognised advanced practice nurse that has a passion for ongoing learning and the ability to adapt to work effectively with different learning experiences. You will need:

• Experience in nephrology nursing (minimum 3 years) and relevant expertise working at an advanced RN practice level 
• Registered Nurse (RN) and a current practising certificate with no restrictions from the NCNZ
• Expert level on the PDRP or Senior 
• A Clinical Masters or the postgraduate courses to meet the requirements to undertake the NP postgraduate practicum aligning to the national Nurse Practitioner Training Support Scheme (NPTSS). 
• Please include university transcript for your Masters courses with your application.
