NZREX Primary Care Pathway (June 2026) - Wellington Region

- Placements at Wellington, Hutt Valley and Wairarapa Hospitals and Community Based Attachments.
- 2 Years and one month Fixed Term - Fulltime

About the Role
If you are an NZREX (or PLAB1&2 or AMC1&2) doctor wishing to gain general registration though a Primary Care Pathway in the wider Wellington Region, we are accepting applications. The first six to nine months of training will be at Wellington, Hutt or Wairarapa Hospitals in generalist attachments such as General Medicine, OPRS, or General Surgery, followed by primary care placements for the remainder of the time. The Primary Care placements will be across the Wellington region, covering the Wellington, Kapiti Coast, including Otaki, Hutt Valley and Wairarapa.
About the Team/Service/ Location
Health New Zealand Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley and Wairarapa districts are situated across the wider Wellington Region. With approximately 7,000 full-time equivalent employees, it is one of the largest employers in the region. Wellington Regional Hospital, Hutt Valley Hospital, and Kenepuru Hospital provide healthcare services to around 445,000 individuals. The Primary Care placements (18 months) will be across the Wellington region, covering the Wellington, Kapiti Coast, including Otaki, Hutt Valley and Wairarapa.

Eligibility Criteria
In order to be eligible for the Primary Care Prevocational Training Pathway towards General Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) applicants:
- Must have passed the NZREX exam in the last 5-years; or Part 1 & Part 2 of the PLAB test or AMC Part 1 & Part 2.
- Must have worked as a doctor for a minimum of 12 months in your home country.
- Must have a visa to work in New Zealand for the duration of the program.
- Must be CURRENTLY residing in New Zealand
- Must have a driver's license and a willingness to drive in New Zealand.
You will need to provide the following information:
- An up-to-date CV
- A cover letter explaining why you are suitable for this position.
- A copy of your medical degree
- Three references including your most recent clinical experience.
- A copy of your passport and visa/resident details
- A copy of your driver's licence
