Obstetrician and Gynaecologist & Clinical Lead - Obstetrics

Contract:  Permanent, part time - 0.99 FTE (39.6 hours p/w)

About the role

As a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, you will provide high‑quality clinical services and oversee the care and management of both acute and non‑acute patients within a multidisciplinary team environment. The role includes participation in the on‑call roster.

You will support and provide leadership to junior medical staff and work collaboratively with the wider team to deliver comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow‑up care for women referred to the service.

This position has a strong focus on high‑risk Obstetrics, including leading Diabetes in Pregnancy clinics, and managing obstetric triage.

The expectation is the successful candidate will assume the role of Clinical Lead – Obstetrics once grounded in the service.  This role provides clinical leadership that delivers a sustainable high quality service integrated with the wider districts. 

About the Team/Service/ Location

The Women’s Health service provides quality and safe care as experienced by women, babies and their whānau of the Wellington Region.  We have a dedicated successful and enthusiastic team of 20 full and part-time Obstetricians and Gynaecologists who enable a collaborative multidisciplinary team approach to service provision, including voice of consumers at all level of service planning.

Wellington Hospital is also a teaching hospital with medical students from the University of Otago rotating through the Women’s Health service. We supervise, and are accredited for Obstetrics and Gynaecology training through the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.

About you

  • Vocationally registered in Obstetric & Gynaecology with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) 
  • FRANZCOG or equivalent to be able to register for vocational registration with the MCNZ
  • Must participate on the oncall roster
  • Work in collaboration with multidisciplinary team
  • Able to provide consistently high standards of medical care
  • Relevant experience and training
