Occupational Therapist for Mental Health service Older Person


Location: Mental Health Service Older Persons, Te Whare Ra Uta, Kenepuru Community Hospital

Contract: Permanent, Full-time  (1 FTE),(Monday to Friday 0830 – 1700)

About the Role

We are seeking an Occupational Therapist to join our well established and supportive inpatient multidisciplinary team. The Occupational Therapist provides a range of individual and group interventions, supporting interdisciplinary formulation and discharge pathways for tangata whaiora admitted to our inpatient unit. You will be actively promoting positive health outcomes for the people we serve working alongside other disciplines within and external to the service. You will have the opportunity to mentor and support the development of students on placement with the service, access to peer support, professional supervision and training opportunities to support your ongoing professional development.

About the Team/Service Location

The Mental Health Service Older Persons (MHSOP) provides comprehensive assessment, treatment and rehabilitation services for tangata whaiora presenting with mental health conditions in later life. Whilst we are primarily a community based service we have a specialist 16 bed inpatient unit located on the Kenepuru campus. We value teamwork and collaboration, working closely with our mental health and geriatric colleagues, other hospital services, community-based agencies and primary care to promote positive health outcomes for whaiora in our care and their whānau. You will be joining a team who are passionate about working in this speciality.

About you

You will have a minimum of 3 years’ experience as an Occupational Therapist, previous experience in mental health care is highly preferred and experience in cognitive and age-related conditions would be desirable. In addition we are seeking a candidate who has the following:

·  Excellent assessment, management, therapy and intervention skills.

·  Effective verbal and written communication skills.

·  Registration and current APC with Occupational Therapy Board NZ.

·  Clinical experience in an inpatient setting.

·  Experience in collaborative multidisciplinary/inter-professional practice.

·  Demonstrated ability to build rapport with tangata whaiora and whānau from diverse backgrounds.

·  Current drivers licence.
