Occupational Therapist - Haematology & Stem Cell Transplant

Contract: Permanent, Part Time (0.6FTE / 24 hours per week)

About the Role

Salary: As per PSA Allied, Public Health, Scientific & Technical MECA 

We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Occupational Therapist to join our Allied Health Oncology team in this newly created position. Working as part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team, you will be based within the Haematology and Stem Cell Transplant programme at Wellington Blood & Cancer Centre | Te Rerenga Ora. You will support patients and whānau affected by haematological cancers and complex blood conditions, with a primary focus on those undergoing stem cell transplant. 

This is an exciting opportunity to establish and develop the Occupational Therapy role within Haematology across inpatient, outpatient, and community settings. Through assessment, intervention, education, and rehabilitation, you will support patients to maintain function, occupational performance, independence, and engagement in the activities and roles that matter most to them throughout their treatment and recovery.

About the Team/Service Location

This role sits within the Allied Health Oncology team, part of the Community, Allied Health and Older Adults (CAHOA) group. Our friendly and collaborative team includes Social Workers, Psychologists, Dietitians, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Speech-Language Therapists, who work alongside nursing and medical colleagues to support people receiving treatment for cancer and blood disorders. 

The team primarily delivers outpatient and community-based services, while also providing specialist support to inpatient areas when required. We work closely with Te Rerenga Ora | Wellington Blood & Cancer Centre, Community ORA, outpatient services, NASC agencies, cancer NGOs and regional providers to ensure patients, whānau and caregivers experience coordinated and seamless support across services.

While this role is primarily based at Wellington Regional Hospital, the service reaches far beyond the hospital setting. As we continue to expand integrated and closer-to-home models of care, you will work flexibly across a range of environments, helping ensure patients can access specialist Allied Health support wherever it is needed most.

About you 

To be successful in this role you will have: 

• Registration as an Occupational Therapist with the Occupational Therapy Board of New Zealand.
• A current Annual Practicing Certificate.
• A minimum of 5 years clinical experience as an Occupational Therapist, ideally with 2 in a health setting
• Experience working with patients with complex health conditions and/or cancer.
• An ability to work flexibly and adaptably in a fast paced clinical settings.
• A broad and contemporary understanding of Occupational Therapy practice, recognising the importance of supporting participation, occupational performance, identity, and quality of life.
