We currently have a vacancy for a motivated Occupational Therapist to join our multi-disciplinary team. 

As we are an acute service, you will be working with a diverse group of patients requiring various levels of support.  Essential skills required are the ability to problem solve and maintain composure in a busy environment and maintain a positive attitude. 

We welcome people that have a patient/ Whanau centred approach in their work and a good understanding of health inequalities for Maori and pacific people. 

To further support staff with their development we are supportive of ongoing training and professional development for all staff.

About the Team/Service 

Te Whare Ahuru provides services for people experiencing an episode of acute mental illness that requires a safe environment with intensive nursing and medical treatment.

The team offers specialist services for people with moderate to severe mental health problems, and offer assessment, treatment and support to assist the individual and their whanau and other support people in their recovery journey with the aim of supporting people back to having their health care provided in primary health care services.   The focus of the service is on providing evidenced based treatment interventions for those people who present with more complex needs and higher risks.

The multi-disciplinary team consists of Psychiatrists, registrars, house surgeons, occupational therapists, social workers, nurses and mental health support workers. 

About you 

Applicants should have:

Essential Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent occupational therapy qualification
  • OTNZ registered 
  • Clinical placements and or clinical experience applicable to the role

Essential Experience

  • Interest in the relevant Mental health area
  • Mental health OT clinical experience
  • Knowledge of MOHOST assessments
  • Understanding of the needs of the particular clients within setting
